- Some form of communication that does not occur at the same time.
For example, when you send an e-mail to your instructor, you are
performing asynchronous communication because your instructor is not
receiving your communication when you transmit it. Instead, he
receives the communication at a later time. This word is the
opposite of synchronous.

- A Learning Management System by which online courses are
conducted. This computer program has many elements to it:
chat, e-mail, calendar, discussion threads, annoucements, course
information, etc.

Course - An online course is a class that is held completely

e-mail, Blackboard, or other electronic format. All assignments
including exams are conducted over the computer.

- Synchronized or occurring at the same time. Face-to-face verbal
communication is a verbal exchange of information where the person you are
speaking with receives and interprets your information immediately.
The opposite of this word is asynchronous.

| Telecourse
- A course that is composed primarily of video viewing. Students
purchase copies of tapes and view the tapes in place of lectures.
Some telecourses are equipt with an online element for instance
communication.
Traditional Course - A traditional
course is on in which the instructor lectures at the front of a classroom
and students sit in the audience.
